Mama Insight Q & A

Today’s Question:
I just found out I am Pregnant.  When should I contact me OB/GYN?
For a normal low-risk pregnancy, it is typically around 8-10 weeks. But it really depends on your specific doctor.  Some actually wait until your 12 weeks along.  Under certain circumstances, such as previous miscarriage, some women are asked to be seen sooner.  Be sure to check with your doctor and let them know if you have any concerns.
How can I calculate my due date, prior to seeing my OB/GYN?
First of all your due date is based upon 2 factors:
-The first day of your last period
-The typical length of your mentral cycle.
1)What was your 1st day of your last period?
Take that and backdate it 3 months
2) For a typical 28 day cycle, Add 7 days to that date.
For a 35 day cycle, Add 14 days.
Now you have your approximate due date!
Example: 28 day Cycle
If you last period started on Jan. 8th,
backdating it 3 months would be October 8th.
Add 7 days = October 15th (Your Approx. Due Date)
For 35 day Cycle:
Add 14 days = October 22nd
